What it means and why it gives you the best of everything
Most couples tell me they want candid wedding photos, but they also still want to look amazing in them. That’s why my style blends documentary storytelling with gentle guidance.”
Here’s what that mix looks like in real life.

Documentary photography
Unposed, real, in‑the‑moment storytelling This is the biggest part of how I shoot. Documentary photography is all about capturing the day exactly as it unfolds — the laughter, the nerves, the hugs, the chaos, the quiet moments.
What this looks like:
- Your mum fastening your dress
- Your partner wiping away a tear during speeches
- Kids running around with cake
- Guests laughing at inside jokes
- The two of you having a moment alone
I don’t direct these moments. I don’t interrupt. I simply observe and capture them as they happen.
Documentary
Candid Photography
Natural moments with a little gentle guidance. Candid photography is similar to documentary, but with a tiny bit more involvement from me. Think of it as “natural, but helped along”.
Examples:
- I might suggest you walk hand‑in‑hand down a pretty path
- Or stand somewhere with gorgeous light
- Or chat to each other while I step back
You’re still being yourselves — I’m just creating the space for those natural moments to happen.
Candid
Posed Photography
Relaxed, flattering portraits without the awkwardness. Even if you want a mostly candid day, posed photos still matter. These are the images you’ll frame, give to family, and look back on for years.
But “posed” doesn’t mean stiff or uncomfortable. My approach is relaxed, simple, and guided — perfect for camera‑shy couples.
What this looks like:
- I’ll help you stand in flattering light
- I’ll give you easy prompts (“walk towards me”, “hold each other”, “look at them, not me”)
- I’ll make sure you look natural, not staged
- It’s quick, it’s easy, and it never feels forced.

Why I Use All Three
Every wedding has a mix of energy:
- Some moments need zero interference (documentary)
- Some moments benefit from gentle direction (candid)
- Some moments deserve a little polish (posed)
Using all three means you get a gallery that feels:
- Natural
- Emotional
- Beautiful
- Real
- And still a little elevated
It’s the perfect balance.
What This Means for You
- You don’t have to choose a style.
- You don’t have to worry about being awkward.
- You don’t have to “perform” for the camera.
You just get to enjoy your day while I capture it in the way that feels right for each moment.

If you love this relaxed mix of styles and want photos that feel natural and true to you, I’d love to chat about your day.
