How to Feel Comfortable in Front of the Camera

Let’s be honest—being photographed can feel weird. You’re told to “act natural” while someone points a lens at your face. Suddenly, you’re hyper-aware of your hands, your smile, your posture… and you’re wondering if you’ve forgotten how to stand like a normal human.

Sound familiar?

You’re not alone. Most of my couples tell me they’re awkward in front of the camera. And yet—when they see their photos, they’re glowing. Relaxed. Joyful. Real. So how does that happen?

Here’s how I help you feel comfortable, confident, and totally yourself on your wedding day.

I Guide, Not Pose

Forget stiff instructions like “tilt your chin 45 degrees.” I’ll gently guide you into natural movement—walking, talking, laughing—so your body language feels authentic. I might say, “Hold hands and walk toward me like you’re sneaking out of your own wedding,” or “Whisper something ridiculous in their ear.”

Suddenly, you’re not thinking about the camera. You’re just having fun. And that’s when the magic happens.

I Create Space to Just Be

Some of the best moments happen when you forget I’m there. I’ll step back during quiet exchanges, emotional hugs, or spontaneous dance-offs. You don’t need to perform—you just need to live your day. I’ll be there, quietly capturing it all.

Tips for Feeling More at Ease:

  • Focus on each other, not the camera. Your connection is the story—I’m just the storyteller.
  • Trust your photographer. (That’s me!) I’ve got your back, and I’ll never ask you to do anything that feels unnatural.
  • Talk to Each Other. I often prompt couples to chat, tease, or share a memory during photos. It shifts the focus away from the lens and onto each other.
  • Embrace the Imperfect. Wind-blown hair, muddy shoes, a laugh that turns into a snort—these are the moments that make your photos yours. Let go of perfection. The more you embrace the real, the more your images will reflect your true story.

Real Moments > Perfect Poses

You don’t need to be a model. You just need to be you. The way you laugh, the way you hold hands, the way you look at each other when no one’s watching—that’s what I’m here to capture.

So if you’re camera-shy, know this: you’re exactly who you need to be. And I’ll make sure your photos reflect that.
